Ian Riley appointed World Cement Association CEO as Norman Greig retires from Secretary General role

London, 2 July 2019 - The World Cement Association announced today that it has appointed Ian Riley as its first CEO, effective as of 1st September. At the same time Norman Greig is retiring as Secretary General, a role he has held since the Association’s formation in 2016.

Ian has a wealth of international experience, having worked across the cement industry in Europe, America and Asia; most recently in China where he spent the last ten years as Country Head for LafargeHolcim.

“We are delighted that Ian has agreed to join World Cement Association as its CEO, at an incredibly exciting time in our history,” said WCA Chairman Vincent Lefebvre. “His experience and drive will be invaluable as we work to take our organisation to the next level in the months and years ahead.”

One of Ian’s first responsibilities will be to oversee the third WCA World Cement Conference, taking place in Shanghai on 9-11 September.

“I’ve been really impressed with the growth of the WCA over the last few years and am looking forward to building on these achievements going forward, together with our diverse and international membership,” said Ian Riley, incoming WCA CEO. “Now, more than ever, the global cement industry needs a strong, ambitious and uniting voice if we are to successfully face the challenges that lie ahead, and it is a great privilege to be leading the WCA at this time.”

At the same time, Norman Greig announced his retirement as the Association’s Secretary General, concluding a long and impressive international career in the cement industry. He has been instrumental in driving the growth of the WCA since inception, helping turn it into the world-leading organisation it is today.

“It is with regret but the very warmest of wishes that we say goodbye to Norman,” said WCA President Song Zhiping. “We are indebted to him for all his diligence and hard work in building WCA from scratch to becoming well recognised as the voice of the global cement industry.”

Kirsty Monk, who is WCA Membership & Administration Manager and has also been with the Association since launch, will additionally take on the role of Company Secretary.
